It’s not every day that you get an opportunity to own a pair of Dream Team history. There was only one Dream Team, and it has been immortalized by moments and memorabilia. BidAMI – Memorabilia.Expert is offering Jordan’s Olympic shoes in their October 22d Sale. The 1992 Barcelona Olympic basketball team was the first to feature professional players. Boy, did they pick the right ones! Known as the Dream Team they defeated their opponents by an average of 44 points on the way to gold. Led by head coach Chuck Daly, the entire team featuring 11 future Hall of Famers along with Christian Laettner in tow as NCCA Player of the Year was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
The team featured the ultimate American basketball weapon in Michael Jordan who started all eight games of the tournament (14.9 points average). Jordan wore a special edition of his Air Jordan VII sneakers that Nike issued for the Olympic games. Presented is one of those very pair.
The special edition red, white and blue patriotic Jordans have the unique Olympic Dream Team flair. They are mostly white with a blue and gold “Jumpman” logo up near the top. Tongue tagging features special coding exclusive to Jordan [920406FT – 130157-110-00]. They are a size 13 with the insoles removed.
Interestingly, his Olympic number “9” on the back heel was represented in white instead of his usual “23”. Overall, they show great wear with soiling and leather creasing throughout.
Both sneakers were signed in blue felt tip on the heal area which has since faded / saturated (“5”). Provenance includes the original auction tag still on the item. The shoes were originally listed shortly after the Olympics in a Christie’s auction (October of 1993). Also to note, the shoes can be readily photo style matched to the games.
These Jordan shoes have been authenticated by Joseph Quatato, former basketball equipment manager- 100% Authentic Team/Joe Quatato
