Are You Ready? Let’s Get It On!”…These items come from the collection of MMA icon Big John McCarthy who is famous for those starting words. His tremendous MMA collection has grown and evolved over the years and he was fortunate to obtain many one of a kind pieces from his years of connections in the industry.
He is the most senior referee in the sport, globetrotting through thousands of bouts including the UFC, Bellator, K-1 (Japan), Rizin, Strikeforce, Affliction, King of the Cage and a multitude of others. In the early days of the sport, he served as the head referee for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). As an integral part of the UFC, he was often refereed to as “the Ninth Side of the Octagon”.
McCarthy was the key figurehead in the development and implementation of the Unified Rules for the sport which have been adopted by Athletic Commissions across North America. He also created COMMAND (Certification of Officials for Mixed Martial Arts National Development) and serves as the head instructor for MMA Referee and Judge training.
McCarthy’s awards and accolades transcend the sport. He was inducted into the Masters Hall of Fame for “Outstanding Achievements in the Martial Arts”. Along with numerous “Best Referee” awards at the World MMA Awards, he was also voted on by top journalists as the first-ever recipient of the “Lifetime Achievement” award.
In 2011, McCarthy’s autobiography “Are You Ready? Let’s Get It On!” was published and continues to be one of the best sellers in the MMA industry.
McCarthy holds a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. As part of his passion for teaching the sport, he owned and operated “Big John McCarthy’s Ultimate Training Academy” a 30,000 square foot facility in California for over 10 years. This is one of the many places his collection progressed. The opportunity to be included within McCarthy’s passion is now here through his collectibles. The offered one-of-a-kind items have never been seen before and will continue to sore in value as MMA continues to grow in popularity among astute collectors.
