Description

This particular offering was presented in a previous auction house listing. Follows is their description:

“Primarily known as a maker of bisque dolls and doll heads for the discerning collector, the manufacturer Gebruder Heubach produced quality antiques from the early 1800’s to the early 1900’s. Beginning in the 1880’s, this prominent German company added porcelain figurines to its product line. Among the rarest of these offerings are sports-related statues, such as the tennis-themed items here offered. All of these Heubach figures are in superior, highly presentable condition (with a single, detail exception noted). The six pieces featured in this lot include: Tennis Girl/Boy 11″ Pairing (2). The 11-1/2″-tall girl wears a very modest pink dress edged in gold paint, a pale yellow jacket and suitable, delicately crafted accessories. The boy stands 11″ in height and is dressed in pink knickers and a matching long-sleeved shirt. Both are appropriately appointed with tennis balls and rackets; Tennis Girl/Boy 13”

“Pairing (2) She wears a white dress that has yellow and brown detailed flowers distributed throughout the outfit in a very aesthetically pleasing manner. Stopping at his knees, the boy wears yellow knickers that match the color and texture of his jacket. Along his neck, he wears a shawl loosely tied around his collar displaying tiny pink tennis racket shapes to match his cuffs. Each of these lovely figures holds a tennis ball in his or her right hand and a racket in the left. Minor color fading has occurred on their shoes and faces; 13″-tall figures. The condition is exemplary except for an expertly restored right arm of the boy that can only be discovered under close inspection. Both of the ornate items feature sublime, cherubic figures dressed for a genteel game of lawn tennis and set within an artistically appointed, ornamental candelabrum; the fragile, leafy shapes adorning the tops of the candleholders are perfectly intact.”
