1888 Jefferson Davis Handwritten, Signed Letter

Jefferson Davis served as the president of the Confederate States of America for its entire history from 1861 to 1865. Davis was captured in 1865, held in a federal prison for two years and then released as the treason charges against him were dropped. He died in 1889 at the age of 81. This item is a note of appreciation Davis sent to a woman who had written to him about a friend who had died in the war. The letter has some tears and rips in it and shows some discoloration so it has to be rated as being in good condition but the signature is very readable and rates a solid nine in strength.
