Description

Presented is a 1900 Paris Olympics Participation Bronze Medal from the Exposition Universelle (World’s Fair). The edge shows the cornucopia symbol and "BRONZE" engraved. The obverse shows the head of "France" in a Phrygian bonnet near a growing oak tree which has put a laurel wreath around her head. A view of the Parisian skyline is to the right. The reverse has a winged Victory figure, holding a laurel wreath and a palm branch, and carrying a winner on her back. The Expo buildings are shown below, with a plaque which cites the medal’s actual recipient. This one is marked "STOCK." The medal’s designer, J.C. Chaplain, is credited on the reverse.
