1923 New York Giants Sterling Silver Season Pass (w/Original Ribbon)
Out of stock
From 1919, and progressing through 1931, the New York Giants provided season ticket holders with sterling silver season passes. Easily portable in the pocket, they were nonetheless very substantial pieces. One year to another, their designs were unique, but the recurrent allure in these passes is that they were handsomely crafted – each season offering a novel and aesthetic wonder. Devised for 1923 was this piece, citing the team’s two immediately preceding World Championships (1921 and ’22). Measuring about 1-3/8″ in diameter, and a solid 3/16″ deep, this is indeed a very weighty accessory. Infrequently, one of these season passes (i.e. from the genre of those dozen inclusive years) becomes available for the advanced hobbyist’s consideration. Never before, however, have we ever seen one with its full accoutrement. Collectors familiar with the Giants passes will remember that they were made with a closed hook at the top (to accommodate attachment to something handier). And “handier” appears to have been a black silk ribbon. Extending six inches, it’s really twice that length but folded at its junction with the silver pass. In turn, the ribbon is designed with a high-quality chain-and-snap attachment. This particular pass was handsomely engraved on the reverse for the facility of “pan style=”font-style: italic;”>Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Hicks” who were season ticket holders number “pan style=”font-style: italic;”>289.” The pass is Near Mint with just a bit of wear evident at the lower perimeter. The ribbon, with its dovetailed ends, is NM/MT, as is the attaching hardware. For the collector pursuing these artistic gems, this one stands at the summit.
