College football jerseys from the 40s and 50s are impossible to find, and pre-war are virtually non-existent. The Roaring Twenties??? … faggeddaboutit. On the rare chance one can be found, the condition is usually deplorable, and the player unidentifiable. Well, football antique collectors need not despair. Offered is a spectacular Yale University jersey worn by #10 Earl Goodwine Jr.
Made by Spalding with a tail label, the midnight navy wool jersey has light leather textured elliptical chest pads and lengthy arm pads. The verso sports a felt #10 on a blue felt swatch which as been lightly tack-stitched onto the body.
There are a few moth holes, but a wool jersey from the 20s – the moth holes can come along for the ride. Accompanying the jersey is a Yale team picture featuring Goodwine and teammates, and a Yale bio book.
Esteemed football historian Lou Lampson has called it “the finest identifiable and provenence supported representation from a major college program that he’s viewed in over 30 years!
