Description

Presented from the 1920s is a Red Grange style leather helmet made by Wright & Ditson a Boston based manufacturer. It sports their trademark wing stamp on the forehead with the model “3HG”. The interior is wool and overall does show wear, and discoloration from aging.

According to the provenance, it was worn by the 1928 All-American and University of Minnesota great, George Gibson. Gibson was also a player coach in the NFL. He was with the Minneapolis Red Jackets and then onward (same season) to the Frankfort Yellow Jackets. The helmet was personalized with the “GIBSON” name in vintage white paint on one of the upper panels.

It originated from a member of Gibson’s family who was originally from upstate New York. A letter of provenance will attend from the current owner.
