1933 Cubs Signed Scorecard (Kiki Cuyler, Honus Wagner)

The handiest medium to accept a ballpark autograph is, naturally, a standard scorecard. Perfectly illustrating such is this one. It dates to a 1933 regular season tilt that witnessed a Cubs-Pirate contest in Wrigley. The game was pencil-scored (testifying a Chicago victory, 5-3). Before that game, we surmise, our nameless fan prevailed upon three of his heroes to scribe their autographs on the cover – which they did. Precisely, these are trong>Kiki Cuyler (“7”), trong>Honus Wagner (“9-10”) and Cubs hurler Lon Warneke. All three of these were placed in pencil and, thereafter, the scorecard was generously shellacked. (As well, we report that it was tri-folded.) Despite the protective coating, this is among the finest Wagner signatures ever available – distinct, thorough and immediately legible.
