Description
Joe DiMaggio’s first Play Ball card is one of the keys to the set, along with the Ted Williams rookie card. In 1939, DiMaggio would continue to excel at the plate and in the field. He would lead the league in hitting with a .381 batting average, smack 30 homers and drive in 126 runs. This would be his fourth consecutive season with 100 or more RBI.
After such a fantastic season, DiMaggio would be named AL MVP for the first time. He would win a total of three MVPs in his career – a career that led DiMaggio to the Hall of Fame in 1955. This Play Ball issue, while simple in its black and white format, offers one of the more recognizable and classic images of the Yankee legend. While not one of DiMaggio’s more difficult cards, poor centering and stray print marks are two condition obstacles to be wary of. This card measures approximately 2½” by 31/8″.
Presented is 1939 Playball Joe DiMaggio Graded Card #26. It was encapsulated and graded SGC VG+ 3.5.
