Description

In tribute to three world heavyweight champions, and presently serving in the armed forces, The Chicago Sun once treated readers to this colorful fold-out supplement. Appearing in their October 11, 1942 issue, The Sun showcased reigning champion Private Joe Louis (U.S.A.), Commander Gene Tunney (U.S.N.), and Lieutenant Jack Dempsey (U.S.C.G.) in their respective military uniforms. Considering that this supplement was dispensed when deadly hostilities raged in, and around, Guadalcanal, it was a warming assurance to the public that iconic sporting heroes such as these rallied to the banner. The three frames unfold to an impressive 30" x 15" – just begging to be matted and proudly framed. Barely detectable is a mild fold that traverses the piece (horizontally, at about two inches from the bottom border). At the two natural compacting folds, we report some minor surface soiling. There are no flagrant creases, blemishes or tears – ultimately, this handsome supplement is about EX.
