Description

The war years, of course, took a heavy toll on major league rosters. But, then, schedules continued and final standings in each of those seasons were recorded. Quite typical was 1943 when the Yankees (themselves, threadbare of talent) claimed the American League flag. At the other end of the standings were the beloved, but hapless Philadelphia Athletics. Yet under the command of The Tall Tactician, these Athletics closed that ’43 campaign with a 49-105 record.

Undaunted, 22 of them mustered the enthusiasm to pen their identities to this OAL (Harridge) baseball. Well maintained over these many years, we report that the ball is about EX+, qualified by a couple small surface stains which don’t violate any of the signatures. Welcomed is the sweet spot signing of pan style=”FONT-WEIGHT: bold”>Connie Mack – a signature projecting at a quality of about “pan style=”FONT-WEIGHT: bold”>8″. Continuing, we note the scribings of  Don Heffner, Jo Jo White, Roger Wolff,  Dick Siebert, Elmer Valo,  Hal Wagner, Orie Arntzen, Pete Suder, Earle Bruckner, Everett Fagan, Johnny Welaj, Jim Tyack, Dave Keefe, Frank Skaff, Lum Harris, Don Black, Eddie Mayo, Jesse Flores, Herman Besse, Russ Christopher and  Bobby Estalella.  The consummate strength of these signatures is about “7-8” – they’re all legible.
