Description

Now, this is just outrageously perfect. It’s a standard autograph album that bears the signatures of the 1948 AAFC Champion Cleveland Browns. There are 39 signings in all, and the only remote departure from absolute completion is the missing signature of journeyman, George Young. The Browns that year were still franchised in the AAFC; they were undefeated, and in the championship game, they hammered the Buffalo Bills 49-7.

To the sweet details of this premium keepsake – the medium, as we’ve indicated is a conventional autograph album with pages measuring about 4-1/4″ x 5″. It’s missing the covers (both front and back), but all the pages remain undamaged and abundantly clean. Vital to the appeal of this work is that each autograph was placed on a single page, and they appear only on one side, thereby affording the collector the full latitude to extract any or all of these for custom mounting if so desired. Nearly all the signings were effected in sharp pencil (a couple exceptions are noted below). All of these autographs are clean and immediately legible to project at strengths of “8” or stronger (most are optimal). It seems that the solicitor was one “Dick Easterly” whose identity is penciled on the first page, and through the course of this album we see intermittant personalizations “to Dick.” However, again, any of these personalizations (or salutations) may be comfortably excised. The order is random in the album, but for the convenience of our readers, we itemize these autographs alphabetically to detail: Tony Adamle, Chet Adams, Al Agase, Bill Boedecker, trong>Paul Brown (a beautiful ballpoint signature), Ollie Cline, Tom Colella, Bob Cowan, trong>Frank Gatski, Bob Gaudio, Horace Gillom, trong>Otto Graham, Chubby [Forrest] Grigg, trong>Lou Groza, Lin Houston, Weldon Humble, Tommy James, Dub Jones, Edgar (Special Delivery) Jones, Frank Kosikowski (appears twice), trong>Dante Lavelli, Cliff Lewis, Mel Maceau, trong>Marion Motley, trong> Ara Parseghian (ballpoint, with notation “To Dick, Your Future Uncle“), Ben Pucci, Lou Rymkus, trong>Lou Saban, Dean Sensanbaugher, Len Simonetti, Mac Speedie, George Terlep, Eddie Ulinski, trong>Bill Willis (“6-7”), and John Yonakor. Also signing, but evidently not under contract with the ’48 Browns, were Wally Bock, Warren Lahr, John Prchlik, and ‘Foozy’ Sustersic.
