1948 Birdie Tebbetts Game-Worn Boston Red Sox Jersey

SKU: 16647 Category:

Though nearing the end of his 14-year career, Birdie Tebbetts was selected as the American League’s catcher for the All-Star Games of 1948 and ’49. He was with the Red Sox those seasons, and was instrumental in Boston’s successes of that era. This offered home flannel is in excellent shape despite its nearly-certain use in the minor leagues. The cream colored jersey radiates with its extensive piping still intact. The inner collar carries the Wilson label of the period, with a flag tag indicating [size] “44” while the inner front tail has a “’48” year tag sewn in. Birdie’s original “8” is on the back, and it’s been lightly reinforced with edge stitching. The front “Red Sox” logo appears to have been re-applied (although, probably by the team, and during the jersey’s active service). The stitch pattern of the latter is slightly different from that of the numeral on the back, and the color hue of the red felt logo is significantly brighter. Categorically, this jersey, with its aesthetic charm, has immense display appeal.
