In 1949, Boston Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey was willing to trade Ted Williams to the Yankees for Joe DiMaggio. The Yankees balked because the Red Sox also wanted Yogi Berra. Fortunately, the Red Sox held on to Williams as he set a record for most games reaching base safely with 84 and had his second AL MVP award.
