Like USC, LSU, Miami and Oklahoma of the new millennium, the “Black Knights of the Hudson” were considered a perennial college football power from the 30’s through the 50’s.. They had revered coaches (Blaik, Dietzel), Heisman winners and hopefuls (Davis, Blanchard, Dawkins, Anderson) and uniforms recognized from Orono, ME to San Diego, CA to go along with their winning streaks. Offered here is a beautiful 1949 black home durene worn by and obtained from Vincent Vergara. Vergara would later transfer and play for Syracuse, but he kept the treasured Army football uniform. Gold tackle twill numerals and embedded gold and silver stripes decorate the jersey, which remains in impeccable condition with six button crotch piece intact. A period Mac Gregor Goldsmith size 46 label and local distributor label (Alex Taylor & Co, New York) provide local and national manufacturer’s recognition. “Fight on old Army Team “……a desirable and rare ‘40’s college football representation.
