Description

While the Yankees busied themselves winning pennants in the immediate post-war era, the Tigers dependably fielded strong contenders. In 1950 Detroit claimed 95 victories, finishing an impressive three games out of first place. It was an stout roster (especially the mound corps), but perhaps it was the quality of the supporting cast of on-field management that propelled this nine. In any event, 29 of their numbers penned this baseball during that successful 1950 campaign. The ball’s stampings are now completely obscured, but its quality fairly assures that it’s an OAL (Harridge), which is lightly and uniformly toned, with absolutely no blemishes. Further, all of the signatures are immediately legible, and they deviate very little from “8” in quality. trong>Rick Ferrell and trong>Hal Newhouser signed the sweet spot, and they’re followed by Hoot Evers, Red Rolfe, Johnny Groth, Pat Mullin, Virgil Trucks, Frank House, trong>George Kell, Hal White, Aaron Robinson, Neil Berry, Art Houtteman, Charlie Keller, Dick Kryhoski, Dizzy Trout, Jerry Priddy, Don Kolloway, Saul Rogovin, trong>Fred Hutchinson, Paul Calvert, Dick Bartell, Vic Wertz, Ted Gray, Joe Ginsberg, Eddie Lake, Johnny Lipon, Bob Swift and trong>Ted Lyons. For that Tiger team, 1950 was the only season common to Lake, Kryhoski and Keller.
