Description
The April 7, 1952 issue of Life magazine featured Marilyn Monroe’s first cover appearance, which was advertised with this promotional poster used at newsstands across the country. This advertising piece, featured only at select newsstands to promote this edition of the magazine, remains one of Lifes highest selling issues of all-time. The cover-photo, featuring a sultry-seductive Monroe in a loose dress, was shot by the famous Phillipe Halsman, one of Life Magazine’s most prolific photographers and responsible for a record 101 Life covers. It was Monroe’s first cover for the magazine, but certainly would not be her last.
This break-through appearance for Hollywood’s 25-year-old Golden Girl was a harbinger of things to come for Monroe, who truly became a major star the following year. Presented is the original Life poster of Monroe (26.50″ x 34.5″) from 1952. Overall, shows wear from display along the edges and discoloration from moisture.
