1952 Rittgers Wrestlers Set

Out of stock

SKU: 8926 Category:

Infrequently, the opportunity emerges for collectors to attain the rare sculpture of “Gorgeous George” as produced by Rittgers in 1952. Similarly, an unnamed beast of a man, known in that arcane genre as “Hairy Chest”, sometimes becomes available – it too, no mean challenge for the aggressive collector. These two pieces are, in fact, elements of a three-unit production. That third figure is, what we believe, George’s corner man. The wrestlers, when available, are hotly pursued even when presented individually. And so, we’re especially delighted to offer the complete ensemble as it was intended to display. “Gorgeous George”, in all his magnificent vanity, is technically EX/MT due to a small chip (about 3/8″ long) appearing inconspicuously on the reverse at the draped robe. The “Trainer”, postured in a state and countenance of utter terror, is VG/EX with several small chips on his attire, and a mild chip at the pinnacle of his electrified hair. The brutish “Hairy Chest” sculpture is virtually perfect (NM/MT). We’ve carefully studied the “hair” and we’re satisfied that it is unviolated – i.e. original and unaltered. The Rittgers collection of distinction is incomplete without this rare composite, and these three, offered as they should be, must be given fullest consideration.
