By claiming the world championship in 2005, the White Sox gained more than is empirically evident. Though close they were in ’59, the Chicago Americans struggled through the decades following 1919 to regain legitimacy. Typical of many of those intervening campaigns was 1953 – a good team, to be sure, but one yet subliminally haunted by the past. Nonetheless, 31 of their roster converged to sign this OAL (Harridge) baseball. The medium is gently toned, but otherwise NM/MT, and all the signings are cleanly legible, projecting at a quality of “8-9”. Minnie Minoso and Negro League veteran, Connie Johnson, occupy the sweet spot. Then about the panels, we find Saul Rogovin, Jim Rivera, Connie Ryan, Roger Cramer, Mike Fornieles, Bob Keegan, Sherm Lollar, Ray Berres, Bud Sheely, Luis Aloma, Eddie Stewart, Ferris Fain, Sandy Consuegra, Freddie Marsh, Lum Harris, manager Paul Richards (on a stamping), Rocky Krsnich, Joe Dobson, Tom Wright, Red Wilson, Chico Carrasquel, Bob Elliott, Bill Pierce, Harry Dorish, Virgil Trucks, Nellie Fox (“9”), Gene Bearden, Bob Boyd and Sam Mele.
