Description
In 1954, Topps and Bowman were in the battle of the best baseball cards. Because of the card war, the 1954 Bowman set was subsequently rushed into production and there were errors that had to be corrected later. The set contains 224 cards. Printed and distributed in two series, cards #1-128 make up the first group and #129-224 comprise the second series. Unusual for the era, the high-number series is not all that much more difficult to find than the low-number series.
Despite the loss of Ted Williams, there are several stars in the 1954 Bowman set that cannot be found in the Topps set of the same year, including Mickey Mantle, Bob Feller, Roy Campanella, Robin Roberts and Pee Wee Reese. Unfortunately for the set, there are very few notable rookie cards. Top options include Don Larsen and Harvey Keunn.
Presented is a complete 1954 Bowman baseball card set (224/224) with Piersall as #66. Highlights are two of the main cards that were graded by PSA including Mickey Mantle #65 (GD 2) and Willie Mays #89 (VG 3). Considering the low grades of the two stars, it’s understandable the rest of the cards in the set would fare the same (low-to-mid grade condition). Note, there are (2) of card #200.
