Description
This ball comes with a signed letter from Carl Erskine from his collection.
For disciples of a Brooklyn past, memory of the 1955 season today serves as an abstract shrine of atonement. Leading into that season, the cross-town Yankees had smugly lost count of their championships while the travail of frustration would lend no pity to the denizens of Flatbush. The Dodgers presently enjoyed a dynasty of sorts – one strictly limited to the National League – and almost routinely, they claimed the ’55 pennant. The bitterly contested Games of that October, however, resulted in an astonishing Brooklyn victory – an unprecendented conquest of epic dimension. The World Series of 1955, then, stands as a glorious, towering monolith on the stark landscape of ageless Yankee supremacy. (Take THAT!)
And from the 1955 season, there remains this splendidly autographed baseball. It’s an (Dodgers) baseball and it holds 27 identities constituting the principal force responsible for that year’s World Crown. Â six of these signatures ( Snider, Bessent, Howell, Newcombe, Furillo, Shuba ) as “clubhouse.
Advancing now to the central elements of this ball, we report that Walt Alston, the beloved and able skipper, appears solely on the sweet spot. Then evenly distributed around the panels, and thoroughly “9-10” in strength, there project the autographs of Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Sandy Koufax rookie, Pee Wee Reese , Gil Hodges, Don Hoak, Rube Walker, Jim Gilliam, , Clem Labine, R Meyer, Jake Pitler, Don Zimmer, Billy Loes, Carl Erskine, Sandy Amoros, Frank Kellert,  Karl Spooner, Ed Roebuck , Roger Craig, and Chuck Templeton.
