Topps 1956 Football set consists of 120 cards, each measuring 2-5/8″ by 3-5/8″. It was the company’s first football card set since acquiring rival Bowman. Cards feature a player photo superimposed over a solid color background, with the team logo set at an upper corner and the player’s name, team name and position fixed at the bottom of the image.
Each card reverse bears statistical data and career totals. The set is anchored by George Blanda (#11), Chuck Bednarik (#28), Art Donovan (#36), Frank Gifford (#53), Y.A. Tittle (#86) and Bobby Layne (#116), and the rookie cards of Roosevelt Brown (#41), Lenny Moore (#60), Stan Jones (#71) and Roosevelt Grier (#101).
Players and team cards from the Washington Redskins and the Chicago Cardinals are more difficult to find compared to the other examples, including players Johnny Carson (#1), Vic Janowicz (#13), Eddie LeBaron (#49) and Ollie Matson (#58); members of the Baltimore Colts, Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns are also somewhat difficult to find in higher grade.
Presented is a partial set of 1956 Topps football cards. There are 114/130 cards in this lot, The cards are all in starter set grade condition with some better than others. See photos for condition assessment.
