1958 Jim Brown “First-Team All-Pro” Award
Out of stock
Important actual – and only – official professional award presented to All-World running back Jim Brown in recognition of his All-Pro status as 1958’s “All-Star Fullback – Cleveland Browns” and selection as a member of the NFL’s 1958 “First Team Offense.” Measures 11 x 9 inches on heavy bonded paper, and awarded by United Press International, whose official staff of “National Football League Writers” and editors determined the rosters of the NFL’s annual “All-Star Game” from 1951 through 1962. (Brown was also voted the NFL’s MVP in 1958; an NFL award also determined by UPI writers). This simple but impressive presentation, so evocative of the era it reflects, is endorsed by Leo Peterson, the venerated football writer and UPI’s first national sports editor. It represents a major signpost and significant affirmation in the career of Jim Brown; indisputably the greatest football player who ever lived. And make note… not just one of the greatest, but the greatest, period. Brown entered the NFL in 1957 and promptly proceeded to rewrite its history. He came, he saw, and he conquered, and then like a thief in the night, disappeared from professional football with every rushing record known to man. Many records have been reestablished, but Jim Brown’s legend remains as powerful as the body-scattering runs which lifted him to prominence as the Cleveland Browns ultimate offensive weapon from 1957 to 65. He was, simply, the greatest pure runner in the history of the NFL. This award is the tangible evidence of his supreme reign, arguably representing the best season of his unparalleled career. Needless to say, but this lot offers serious collectors a rare opportunity to acquire what must be considered an extremely significant addition to any caliber of collection.
