Leroy Neiman is best known for his brilliantly colored, stunningly energetic images of sporting events, social and leisure activities. During his lifetime, he was the most popular and successful living artist in the United States. Neiman’s artistic style and genius is familiar to a remarkably broad spectrum of people around the world. His artworks are found in monthly issues of playboy magazine, has been used in promotion for the Olympics and Super Bowl and completed along the sidelines of many other sporting events. Neiman was widely regarded as the greatest living artist at the time of his death in 2012.

Here we find one of Neiman’s best and most famous subjects of the equestrian nature. It is an original oil painting that dates to 1959 of jockeys on their horses. Perhaps they were waiting for the blare of the bugle to the starting line? Suburb technique and talent by Neiman is shown here within the vibrant colors of the race suits and horse blankets. All true to the artist’s magnificent touch. Neiman’s signature stroke of an autograph is on the bottom in black along with the date (’59). Within the matte of the frame measures 14″ x 14″ with and overall  22″ X 21.75″.
