Description
The golden age for the Pittsburgh Pirates was in the 1950s and early ’60s. A cannon-armed Roberto Clemente put his permanent mark on the city with his awe-inspiring play. About a year before the Pirates were World Series winners, they signed the offered ONL (Giles) ball. The ball has lightly shellacked which isn’t bad for a sphere signed nearly 50 years ago. 29 team members penned their identities onto the ball in blue ballpoint ink. In our estimation, the ball was signed around 1959 because it has Ted Kluszewski on it. Klu was at the end of his career and did not appear with the ’60 championship team. ) Roberto Clemente on ( Sweet Spot) Bill Mazeroski Ted Kluszewski, Don Hoak Bob Skinner, Dick Groat, Dick Schofield, Dick Stuart, Bill Virdon, Roy Face, Bill Virdon, Vern Law, Smoky Burgess, Bob Friend, Harvey Haddix, Ron Kline, George Detore, Harry Bright, Bill Burwell, Sam Narron, Román Mejías, Don Gross, Frank Oceak,G. Witt, Danny Kravitz, Hardy Peterson, and three others. Signatures grades 7-8. JSA Full Letter.
