Description

The dreaded Curse of Rocky Colavito plagued the Cleveland Indians for about three decades. The Indians traded away the fan-favorite Colavito to the Detroit Tigers for Harvey Kuenn. Fans were furious over the deal. Resultantly, the Tribe long remained mired in mediocrity.

This Hillerich & Bradsby model K55 bat (35″ and 32 ounces) served Rocky when he clubbed four home runs in a doubleheader on Aug. 27, 1961. The bat was then donated to Paul Hill, a long-time memorabilia collector. Hill approached Colavito before the twin bill and asked the superstar if he would give him an memento to enhance his collection. Colavito told Hill to find him after the second game and he would have something for him. Well, Hill received the actual bat Colavito used that day to drill his home runs. Talk about timing.

trong>PSA/DNA bat authenticator John Taube mentions the story in the accompanying LOA and has graded the bat a perfect trong>GU 10. A number of ball marks and baseball stitch impressions have found their way onto the back barrel. Bat rack marks are also evident on this fine uncracked stick. “7” (underlined) is written in period black marker on the knob. A PSA/DNA sticker is affixed to the barrel end. Colavito signed the barrel and inscribed “To Paul With best Wishes Sincerely.” The best of the best in terms of Colavito game-used bats.
