1962 Joey Amalfitano Houston Colt 45s Game-Worn, Autographed Flannel Jersey
Out of stock
Joey Amalfitano was a journeyman infielder who played ten seasons in the Big Show, never playing on a pennant winner and never batting over .277. He was a respected and solid baseball man, managing the Cubs for parts of three seasons, and serving as a coach for five teams covering thirty years.
He also had the insight to save his Colt .45s home jersey from the franchise’s inaugural season – 1962. In beautiful condition, with only minor back collar and right shoulder spot staining, the jersey is highlighted by the chenille stitched smoking pistol front, one of the most visual in baseball history.
Amalfitano’s #11 is applied in midnight navy-on-orange felt and remains in impeccable condition. The lower left front tail holds a Wilson size “42” label, beneath which remains the visible outline of a rectangular felt swatch which once bore a 1962 year designator.
The absence of the felt swatch (which seldom withstood the rigors of everyday wash and wear) is the jersey’s only shortcoming, but the fact that Amafitano played a lone season with the Colts in ’62 and held possession of the jersey for decades, decidedly dates the flannel to the club’s debut season.
Amalfitano signed the jersey under the tail labeling. With all buttons intact, this gem is worthy of prominent display from front or verso. The jersey originally was on display for many years at the Fingers Sports Museum in Houston before being given back to the original owner. A letter of authenticty will also be provided from the museum director.
