1963 Topps Baseball Sheet
Out of stock
By many opinions, the Topps baseball production of 1963 was the company’s aesthetic triumph of the decade. As is evident in our photograph for this entry, we present a sheet from that issue. There are 108 cards on this unit (90 different), and their numbers appear in the issue’s first two series. This sheet was originally printed with two additional vertical rows on the left side, but these images are now missing. (The standard, of course, is 132 cards per full uncut sheet.) The bottom two horizontal rows of this sheet duplicate its top two rows, and there’s a reasonable likelihood that this was a production sheet (complete with reverses) that was withdrawn by quality control due to a mild deficiency in ink transfer. A few of the notables on this sheet include #’s 1 NL Batting Leaders (Aaron, Musial, F. Robinson), 2 AL Batting Leaders (Mantle et al), 3 NL Home Run Leaders (Aaron, Mays, F. Robinson, Banks, Cepeda), 4 AL Home Run Leaders (Killebrew, Maris et al), 18 “Buc Blasters” (Clemente et al), 25 Al Kaline and 68 “Friendly Foes” (Gil Hodges/Duke Snider). The overall condition of this piece is about Excellent. One common card on the right edge sustained damage in handling, and the right border has a couple small holes. However, there are no conspicuous creases or other blemishes.
