1964 NFL Champions Cleveland Browns Diamond Pendant and Necklace (Given to Players’ Wives)

Pre-dating the institution of the Super Bowl by a couple years, the stoic NFL annually conducted their championship contests, waged by the winners of the Eastern and Western conferences. In 1964, that game was performed by the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Colts – the former vanquishing the latter by a score of 27-0. Of the several awards and plaudits generated by this victory, there were several high-caliber pendants that were given to wives of the victors. One such is now offered, and it is utterly magnificent.

Yet supplemented by a fine 18″ necklace (which, in all likelihood, is the original), this pendant measures about 1-1/8″ in diameter. The stone is a large, genuine diamond which is mounted to an accentuating brown (of course), translucent stone. In turn, the perimeter of the setting announces “Browns … World Champions.” On the reverse there is print-engraved “1964 … Cleveland Browns 27 Baltimore 0.” Then at the lower perimeter of the reverse, we find that the piece is 14k gold and that it was manufactured by Balfour (“LGB“). In every consideration, this little treasure is NM/MT with utterly no chipping to the diamond or blemishes elsewhere.

Per Summerlin Jewelers – this piece is a “…14 karat…pendant…” with “…one round brilliant-cut diamond…set in the center of a white gold…setting. The diamond measures 4.0mm with an estimated weight of .25 carat with VS-1 to VS-2 clarity and G-H color. The center section is set on top of an oval Carnelian gemstone which is bezel-set.” And finally, the necklace is a “…14 karat white gold curb chain…[and]…The total weight is 25.6 grams.”
