“Monbo,” as he was affectionately known to the Red Sox Nation, was a local Medford, Massachusetts hurler who was Boston’s top pitcher in the early ‘60s. He played eleven major league seasons, and from 1960 through ‘65, he won 86 games, while earning three All-Star berths. This representation is a simple, but beautiful and perfectly intact 1965 road gray flannel. The front identifier, “BOSTON,” remains in glorious condition, the midnight navy felt is arched to perfection on a sea of medium-weight cotton gray flannel. The verso sports his “27” – here again, in felt – with the BoSox’s traditional “slash” 2’s and stemless “slash” 7’s in ideal condition with minor surface pilling. The left front tail bears the Tim McAuliffe triple labeling – the square main label with a “65” year tag and “44” size tag sewn in tandem with the lowermost horizontal quadrant edge. Clean as a whistle, this gem had to be rescued from subsequent training camps or minor league duty. A perfect 10.
