1965 The Beatles Signed Photo John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison & Ringo Starr Meet Elvis Presley (Provenance Letter) JSA Full LOAGo Back
There are some chance meetings that take place in the music industry that turn into something extraordinary. On August 27th, 1965, The Beatles met Elvis Presley. Back then Elvis was on the downside of his career and The Beatles were in the midst of “Beatlemania”. Both parties met at Presley’s California house on Perugia Way.
When The Beatles arrived they just sat and starred in awe at Elvis before The King broke the ice. He said, ”If you guys are just going to sit around and stare at me, Im going to bed. I didn’t mean this to be the subjects coming to see The King. I thought we’d talk and then maybe jam some.” The group did get to “jam” for a bit with Elvis showing off his base skills.
From that evening, this black and white 8-1/4″ x 6-1/2″ photo was autographed by The Beatles band members. All four superstars including John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr signed clearly in blue ballpoint (“8-9”).
The signatures were secured by Marty Lacker who was there that evening. Lacker was a close friend and confidant of Elvis for 20+ years. Hence why there is also a salutation on the photo, “To Marty Best Wishes – From The Beatles”. This inscription was penned in the hand of Ringo Star.
One of Elvis’ trusted friends, Marty Lacker was instrumental in arranging Elvis’ seminal recording sessions at American Sound Studios with producer Chips Moman in January and February of 1969. Marty shares the genesis behind those historic sessions, which yielded the hits, “Suspicious Minds,” “In The Ghetto,” “Don’t Cry Daddy,” and “Kentucky Rain” and marked an artistic rebirth for the singer.
