1968 Harlem Magicians Basketball Broadside Poster Featuring HOFer Marques Haynes
Out of stock
Traditional boxing-style 14″ x 22″ cardboard broadside documenting a late-60’s appearance of the Fabulous (Harlem) Magicians featuring their marque player (and owner) Marques Haynes, the first Globetrotters alum to be enshrined in the Hall of Famer solely on his merits as an individual player; a superstar of his era with the Globetrotters and a master of ball control, rightly hailed as the “World’s Greatest Dribbler.” After helping build the Trotters into one of the planet’s greatest live attractions, he would exit in 1953 to form his own Harlem Magicians and barnstorm the world, all the while fighting his ex-team over the right to include “Harlem” in his squad’s moniker. He would relent a decade later and settle on the equally appropriate, “Fabulous.” Dated “January 20, 1969”, Haynes and company are set to play a Sunday afternoon game versus the “Famous Kansas City Rens” at Dallas’ S.M.U. Coliseum. It has survived nearly four decades in outstanding original condition with only gentle toning to the borders. Venue posters of this era featuring images of players of Haynes’ stature are seldom encountered.
