Description
Back in the day, the AFL was a powerhouse that certainly changed the engine of playing football. They essentially took the NFL ground and pound philosophy away by opening up the playbook and adding dimension to the field. This concept sounds familiar to how the modern day game is played but perhaps it is a mere flashback.
Nonetheless, the Oakland Raiders were part of that engine and Jim Otto – “00” himself was the central fusion point of their offense back in the 1960s and 70s. This Otto game worn durene jersey is tremendous and from the 1969 AFL All-Star Game. This was from the last AFL game ever played!
As a tribute to the AFL in the league’s final game before the merger, the AFL’s founding father, Lamar Hunt, had patches added to the uniform. As the special blue/white/orange AFL patches were only used for this one game, the patches in and of themselves are highly coveted by collectors.
“Otto’s “00” is applied to chest, shoulders and verso in royal blue tackle twill. The front company tagging is located on the tail and it denotes “Wilson [size] 50 (handwritten in black felt tip).
To add further provenance, on the back numerals, it was autographed by Otto in silver felt tip with multiple inscriptions including the most important one, “Game-Used” as well as Raiders and “Pro-Bowl” (on opposite number).
This jersey is a great reflection on real football when players were durable warriors. Everything on this jersey screams “The Best!” Now with Raiders heading to Las Vegas, this particular Raiders Era is even more significant to the Raiders fans and the game used jersey collector.
