1969 Rollie Fingers Game-Worn, Signed A’s Flannel Jersey, From Rookie Season

Generally, only position players are considered for the MVP award, so we can imagine just how great Rollie Fingers was in 1981 when he won both the MVP and Cy Young awards. The Hall of Famer, who brought the closer position into the limelight, wore this size “42” jersey during his rookie campaign of 1969. This cream-color flannel vest can be traced to ’69 because of the inclusion of an “100th Anniversary” MLB patch which is located directly below the front team insignia. The jersey qualifies as a one-year style because in ’68, “OAKLAND” was scripted across the front of the home and road jerseys. In 1970, “A’s” was affixed on the front of the home, road and alternate styles. The front of this offered jersey has “A” created in two-color green-on-yellow tackle twill. Gorgeous yellow/green/yellow piping accentuates the shoulder yokes and collar. Season-long wear is apparent with tremendous puckering on the identifiers. The MLB patch appears to be original. There are no moth holes or other tears to speak of. The only qualifications are a few slight stains. Located in the tail is a McAuliffe tag, “69” year designator and size “42” tag. Fingers signed the front in blue felt tip. A Prova sticker (located in the collar) authenticates the signature. The jersey has been graded MEARS 9 (300695) which may be confirmed on mearsonline.com. Why compromise style or substance when you can have both?
