1971-72 Jim Kiick Game-Worn Miami Dolphins Jersey From Undefeated Super Bowl Season – Photo-Matched, COA 100% Team Graded 19/20Go Back
The 1972 Dolphins were simply magical. It was only their seventh year and they rode the tide through to 14 straight victories. They struggled through the first two playoff games but then defeated the Washington Redskins, 14-7, in Super Bowl VII for the ultimate season without a loss. No other team has been able to go the same channel. The Dolphins followed up their perfect season with another Super Bowl title the following year against the Vikings.
Two integral parts of the team in the backfield were affectionately referred to as “Butch and the Sundance Kid.” Both Larry Csonka and Jim Kiick were resilient. Csonka shrugged off numerous injuries including 10+ broken noses, a cracked skull and shattered eardrum. Kiick also went through the gridiron gauntlet. In one game, he played with a fractured toe and finger, a pulled ankle tendon, a hip that was out of place and a punctured elbow. Surprisingly, he only missed one game in his professional career because of injuries. Indeed, those were the good ole days absent of multi-million dollar contracts.
Graded 19/20. Jim Kiick wore this ‘phantastic’ white mesh jersey during the legendary 1971- 72 undefeated Super Bowl season. The Wilson jersey features the super thick two-color aqua/orange fonted numerals “21”sewn on tackle twill. Other distinguishing features include the sewn on nameplate with aqua KIICK lettering, crossover v-neck, popping 3-D “21s” on the sleeves and diagonal shoulder seams. The front tail sports the Wilson label with the wash instructions – size XL.
The wear on this dandy is fantastic! All of the gauntlet ravage from the season is present with soft, puckered and frayed edge identifiers. Great blood stains are present on the front shoulder area and tons of soiling/staining under both of the arms. There are also small tears and repairs found throughout (on sleeves/shoulder area and there’s a nice repair by the bottom of the number 1 on reverse).
An exact photomatch from the remarkable season is present for authentication with the notable shoulder marks – see photos. Overall, a nice game-used Kiick jersey from one of the great tandem backs still reminisced about in Dolphins lore.
