Description
This item is from the collection of one of the foremost Joe Namath collectors in the world. His friendship with Joe since the beginning of his Jets career has led him to receive some amazing one-of-a-kind relics. Each piece hearkens back to an important NFL era and time capsules an unforgettable character with a Hall of Fame career.
Joe Namath reached legendary status shortly after his promised victory in Super Bowl III came to fruition. Presented is one of his game-worn road jerseys from the early 1970s (1971-72). The front and back numerals “12” are solid green and screened on. The same numbers “12” appear in white on the sleeves for television identification.”NAMATH” is sewn on in single color (green) tackle twill and it spans the shoulders on the rear nameplate. The style and placement of the tail tagging is from the early 1970s, with the stacked “Jets Sand-Knit Exclusivity” and [size] Large with wash instructions labels. The jersey was signed in black felt tip marker with his #12 added as an inscription.
It’s key to note that this jersey does have screened on numbers and a sewn on nameplate. Although many jersey’s of this era appear as screened on nameplate and numbers, according to former equipment managers and collectors it is not unusual to have the mish mosh of sewn on nameplate and screened on numbers. We saw this consistency throughout the 80’s where some players had screened on numbers and others had sewn on and then of course the mix of both screened on & sewn on numbers and nameplate.
Also included are a pair of game worn pants to complete the uniform. These pants are not attributed to Namath however they are Jets game pants. They have the Jets Exclusivity tagging in the waist and [size] 30 Sand Knit tag below. The white pants with green side stripe accents show aging and sweat staining in the interior waistband. Overall, both pieces make a great addition to any Jets fan collection.
