1971 Sandy Alomar Game-Worn Angels Flannel Jersey

Out of stock

SKU: 41275 Category:

From the Angels’ American League unveiling in 1961 through 1970, the club’s nickname appeared on home jerseys in an Old English font – nearly identical in style to that used by the Red Sox. For a brief two-year period, the lower case “angels” style appeared with a halo over the “a” – (the ’71 season in flannel, and ’72 in double knit), before the capital “A”-with-halo commenced a two-decade run. Offered is a 1971 home flannel worn by 2B/SS Sandy Alomar, the distinguished patriarch of the Alomar baseball family; who played 15 major league seasons, six of which were with the Halos.

Made of a coarse cotton wool blend, this senior Alomar game-worn jersey features a seven-button front with collar and sleeve piping. Alomar’s #2 appears in slash-font, on front and verso, and the club’s haloed “state of California” patch accentuates the left sleeve. The NOB has been removed but outline remains are still visible, arched above the number. A Rawlings size 38 label appears in the collar, while the lower left front tail bears a dry cleaning label and, in red chain link stitching, “Alomar 38 71.” The wear is solid with minor collar label fraying and the style is, indeed, rare.
