A 6’11” center from the University of Texas-Pan American, Moore played nine seasons (1968–1977) in the National Basketball Association as a member of the Detroit Pistons, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Kansas City–Omaha Kings, and New Orleans Jazz. He averaged 8.2 points and 8.2 rebounds in his NBA career and ranked eighth in blocks per game (1.7) during the 1975–76 NBA season.
Presented is Otto Moore game-worn six-button snap-down warm-up jackets from the early part of his career in New Orleans. The purple cheesecloth fabric jacket originates directly from a team-source and epitomizes pro-basketball style in the 1970s. The flamboyant scheme shows the Jazz note logo sewn on vinyl the chest with a decorated basketball on the front in gold, green, purple, and white. The sleeves are also decked out in embedded yellow and green striping. The Jazz wore these warm-ups in ’74/’75, ’75/’76 and ’76/’77. As you can see, the nameplate on the verso was removed. This was customary in the constant change-in, change-out format equipment managers used especially on the road. The proper velcro fasteners still reside on the upper location
The collar tagging includes a dual Medalist Sand-Knit and New Orleans Jazz exclusivity [size] 46. The collar also features 34 jersey number designation “34” screen printed on a square swatch with zigzag stitching. The number designation tagging in the collar is consistent with exemplars we have seen on the market and in our database.
As for the warm-up pants included in this lovely ensemble, they are fashionably designed and have great eye appeal. “NEW ORLEANS” is sewn in white down the left pant leg. The “bell style” pants shows great wear throughout with cracking on the identifiers. The inner waistband showcases dual Sand Knit [size] 36 and Jazz exclusivity. The computer-generated swatch features a “34” affixed. All are correct and original.
The snazzy warm-up it its entirety shows consistent wear from an entire season (or multiple) throughout. It was collected after the New Orleans Jazz moved and was stored by the team source. It has never been offered until now and is ready for display in a top tier NBA collection.
