Named one of the 50 Greatest Players in history by the NBA in 1996, Rick Barry ranks among the most prolific scorers and all-around players in basketball history and is the only one to lead the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), ABA, and NBA in points per game in a season. He ranks as the all-time ABA scoring leader in regular season (30.5 points per game) and postseason (33.5) play, while his 36.3 points per game are the most in the NBA Finals history.
Presented here is Rick Barry’s Vitalis Award for Most Popular Player Award, given to him in 1975. That year the Warriors captured the division crown as Barry averaged 30.6 points per game and led the league in free throw percentage (.904) and steals per game (2.9). He also was sixth in assists per game (6.2), the only forward among the top 10 in the category.
This medal, which is golden, has “Vitalis Award For Sports Excellence” etched on the face in high relief, and the opposite side features an ornate decoration of athletes performing various competitions and exercises. The medal is centered in a 6″ tall (6″ length) display with a plaque on the front that reads, “VITALIS MOST POPULAR PLAYER AWARD – RICK BARRY – GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS – 1975.”
