Description

This item is from the collection of one of the foremost Joe Namath collectors in the world. His friendship with Joe since the beginning of his Jets career has led him to receive some amazing one-of-a-kind relics. Each piece hearkens back to an important NFL era and time capsules an unforgettable character with a Hall of Fame career.

Broadway Joe moved his swagger, llama coats, and rifle arm to Tinseltown to finish his career. The move proved to be short-lived as Namath’s gimpy knees forced him to retire after a single season (1977) with the Rams. Made by Sand-Knit, this Namath jersey sports double tagging, the lower of which has been folded with the customized seaming of the tail. The numerals are screened-on with heavy rubberized applique. The front numerals at 10″, are the shorter of two styles used by the Rams in this period. The NOB was screened onto the plate in one of the font styles used for Rams gamers. Of importance is the sleeve customization at the base of the Ram horns logos, a styling which was used exclusively by Namath during his season there. The jersey is autographed below the back numerals and shows light QB wear as would be expected from this time in Namath’s career.

Authentication: JSA Auction Letter for autograph and Lou Lampson LOA for game use.
