Description
1978 Aqueduct The Roseben Trophy is offered in the auction.
“Just scoot as you leave the gate,” said Doug Peterson, the trainer, to Jacinto Vasquez, the Jockey, as he saddled Big John Taylor before yesterday’s 34th running of the Roseben Handicap at Aqueduct.
It was apparent as the eight‐horse field broke from the gate that Vasquez had listened carefully. He steered Big John Taylor to the front at the start and then kept him there the rest of the seven‐furlong trip. The 4‐year‐old colt returned $19.20 for $2 to win.
“Not only did he break well.” said Vasquez after his mount ha beaten Pillar Farms’ Silver Series to the wire by 1½ lengths,” but he ran relaxed all the way. He sure is a nice colt. “Quiet Little Table finished third.
Big John runs for Karen L. Taylor, also the owner of Seattle Slew. They are the stars of the stable now being trained by the 28‐year‐old Peterson. Peterson’s strategy in the feature was the same used for Big John Taylor’s three other triumphs in six starts this year. The son of Speak John breaks quickly and once in front, he seems determined to stay there.”
Offered is the trophy that Big John Taylor won at this race.
