Description
The New York Yankees overcame the Boston Red Sox and themselves in the 1978 season. Slugger Reggie Jackson incurred a five-game suspension for arguing with manager Billy Martin, who eventually resigned later in the year. The Yanks swept a four-game series late in September which became known as the “Boston Massacre.” New York went on to win the division when it won a one-game playoff against the hated Red Sox. Bucky Dent hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to seal the deal.
