1979 Paul Mirabella Game-Worn Yankees Jersey
Out of stock
Paul Mirabella pitched for six clubs over 12 seasons at the major league level, predominantly in relief. Today, back home in his native New Jersey, he is one of the most highly acclaimed youth pitching coaches in the country.
He only played one season for the old town team, and this jersey was worn in that 1979 season for the Yankees. The pinstripe jerseys sports a seven button front featuring an interlocking “NY” on the left chest. The front tail sports a well worn Wilson 42 label while the collar swatch reads “Mirabella 79 2”, identifying player, season and set.
Like the front identifier, label, collar swatch, and collar lining, the back #36 shows exceptional wear, particularly the frayed edges, suggesting that perhaps Jim Kaat, who pitched briefly for the ’79 Yanks, may have worn the jersey, or that it was used in subsequent spring trainings, or at the minor league base. It does not carry remnants of the Thurman Munson black armband, suggesting that it was not used after mid August, 1979 at the major league level.
It’s not easy to find a Yankees’ 1970’s home knit intact, so bet on Paul Mirabella and count the number of pitching prospects he’s developed for the betterment of baseball.
