1980 Rickey Henderson Game-Worn, Signed A’s Alternate Jersey (w/Bat Boy’s LOA; Tremendous Use)

In just his second major league season, Rickey Henderson flashed the promise of a Hall of Fame career when he stroked a .303 average and stole 100 bases. The ever-durable Henderson went on to play 25 seasons, but none of his game-worn representations are as rare or valuable as those from his rookie era.
This gem dates to his sophomore season in the Bigs – 1980. The jersey was sourced from former A’s batboy, Robert Villegas. It was Villegas who recently offered Reggie Jackson’s 1977 Yankees jersey which created a stir among the game-worn collecting community.
Made by McAuliffe, the signature rounded tail sports four labels sewn in tandem which designate manufacturer, season (1980), washing instructions, and size “42.” The “forum gold” knit features a three-inch braided knit sleeve stripe pattern, a custom opened V-neck and A’s front logo. The verso bears Henderson’s early-career number “35” in appropriate block font and a three-inch elongated plain block NOB in solid green. The wear is rock solid with identifier puckering, slight fading and surface softness. Punctuating the jersey front is a full yielding of Rickey’s distinguished early autograph – bold and legible.
I ,Robert Villegas, personally obtained the aforementioned jersey directly from the player, Rickey Henderson in 1983.
