Description
Willie Aikens is a former Major League Baseball first baseman. He had established himself as one of the top sluggers in the game before drugs derailed his career. In 1994, Aikens was sentenced to 20 years in prison on four counts of crack cocaine distribution and one count of use of a firearm during drug trafficking. He was released on June 4, 2008, after changes in federal drug laws, and is sometimes cited as an example of the results of mandatory minimum sentencing in drug-related crimes.
Presented is a Willie Aikens game worn Kansas City Royals jersey from the 1983 season. The white [size] 42 jersey reads “ROYALS” in blue tackle twill across the chest along with “24” on the lower-left portion of the front side of the jersey. The rear reads “AIKENS” and a large “24” in blue tackle twill. A Wilson manufacturing tag with the size 42 can be found inside the collar of the jersey. An “83” patch is visible on the lower left-hand portion of the jersey denoting the year that the jersey was used. This exemplar shows excellent signs of wash and game wear throughout with loose threads (fraying).
