1984 Michael Jordan Game Olympic Jersey Team USA COA 100% Authentic Team

This representation is a Michael Jordan game jersey from the USA Basketball team which participated in the 1984 Olympics at Los Angeles.

The 1984 USA Olympic team had three jersey styles in white, red, and blue.  The blue was worn in the gold medal round, the red in the preliminary round games, and all were used in the pre-Olympic tour equivalent to the current Tournament of the Americas preparation schedule.

There were also two styles:  mesh with plasticized numerals and micro-knit with sewn-on numerals.  The photo styles during the game show the USA team wearing the plasticized numerals.  We have not yet been able to determine by photo matching, the USA team wearing the micro-knit with sewn-on numerals on the court.   So without the photo evidence, the possible conclusion is that this is an Alternate Style Option jersey issued to the USA Olympic team.

The jersey body is a lightweight red micro-knit which was a Descente product that competed with the US manufacturer’s knits and meshes alike.  It has just under 5″ side panels which consist of a midnight blue insert micro-knit affixed with tow other 1″ white braids.

The weight and texture of the jersey body components are correct.  The arm yoke and neck openings are trimmed with midnight navy and white braiding, with the white being the more dominant color.  The rounded V-neck and the shallow arm yokes are also correct.  This jersey has its team name USA and player front and back numerals “9” for “Jordan” sewn on in 2 color midnight navy and white full arched block lettering.

The jersey size, sheen, and single stitch through affixation are all correct.  Of particular note are the squattiness and narrow openings of the “S” in USA and the 6s and 9s numerals worn by Patrick Ewing and Michael Jordan.  This jersey has identical openings in the USA “S and numeral 9.”

The Descente tag is affixed to the lower left front tail.  It denotes size 44 which was the correct for Jordan gamers early in his career.  The Descente logo in white is affixed to the base of the upper right arm stirrup.  It is zigzag stitched to the jersey body.

This representation is the more desirable and attractive red based version.  Based on the provenance that was presented to us, it was sourced from a veteran USA basketball executive and has been in his possession since the end of the 1984 Olympic season.  It is an important representation of Jordans’ early career and a far more rare jersey of superior quality, styling, and uniquely made by Descente than the 1992 Dream Team jersey.
