1984 Team USA Signed Program (Vintage Jordan, Ewing, Knight et al.)

The best in NCAA basketball was on hand to compete for spots on the Olympic team at the Hoosier Dome (Indiana Univ.) on July 9, 1984. The goal was to make the cut and proceed to Los Angeles. Offered is a program from those preliminaries. In black felt tip, it’s signed by ten aspiring fellows who later became part of the gold medal Olympic Team. The strength of these vintage autographs is “8-9” with a supremely legible Michael Jordan. Also intriguing here is the college-level signing of Patrick Ewing. At the time, it was widely known that an intensely protective John Thompson (Georgetown’s head coach) virtually insulated Ewing from all things public – including autographs. Other champions who signed include: Steve Alford; Vern Fleming; Joe Kleine; Bobby Knight (coach); Jon Koncak; Sam Perkins; Alvin Robertson and Wayman Tisdale. The program itself is in EX condition (limited due to sun exposure). A pair of provenance letters are included explaining the sun damage (Bobby Knight’s car) and how the coaching legend presented each ball boy an autographed program for his work.
