Description

Mike Schmidt was a twelve-time All-Star and a three-time winner of the National League Most Valuable Player award, and he was known for his combination of power hitting and strong defense: as a hitter, he compiled 548 home runs and 1,595 RBIs, and led the NL in home runs eight times and in RBIs four times. As a fielder, Schmidt won the National League Gold Glove Award for third basemen ten times. Schmidt was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995 and is often considered the greatest third baseman in baseball history

One thing is for sure is that he went hard every play during every game. He even took batting practice seriously. This “Rawlings size 46 (with 2” extra length) pullover was worn by Schmidt when he was at the top of his game with the Phillies. The burgundy pullover has its identifiers applied in single-color white tackle twill. The front has the classic Phillies logo across the chest and the sleeves include “20” in small font. The back of the shirt showcases his name “SCHMIDT” and jersey number “20” (also sewn-on in single stitch white) Overall, shows some signs of wear with loose threading and malleable tagging. Schmidt autographed the back number in red felt tip pen (“9”).

To complete the uniform, a pair of matching red pinstriped pants is included that was worn by Schmidt. The pants have Rawlings tagging in the waistband [size] 33 and a coding swatch 20 – 34-36 27 88 1 with Set 1 1988 flap. The pants show soiling stains on the front from use.

The blue jersey will be used as provenance as it belonged to the equipment manager, Pete Cera. Pete was the Philadelphia Phillies clubhouse assistant for 24 years. From 1974 until he retired in 1998 he was a trainer, traveling secretary, clubhouse man, manager’s helper, player’s friend – and a combination mother, father and favorite uncle. For 36 years in worked in the Phillies farm system before working with the major league club.
