Description
Pete Rose’s hit mark should endure all future ages. For most accomplished hitters, 3,000 hits is the milestone. But for Rose and Ty Cobb, 4,000 hits set the superlative standard. Rose returned to his roots when he joined the Cincinnati Reds late in the 1984 season, and the following year he eclipsed Cobb as the all-time leader. This Mizuno bat (30.3 ounces and 34″) was used by Rose late in the 1985 campaign. The offered bat was given to Braves’ interim manager, Bobby Wine, Sept. 26, 1985 when Rose’s Reds were finishing up a series against Atlanta. This Mizuno model PR4192 lacquered black bat, graded trong>PSA GU 10 by John Taube of PSA Bats and MEARS 9.5, shows remarkable use with ball marks on the back barrel. Deeply embedded ball marks and cleat marks also affirm game use. A light layer of deadwood is evident on the back barrel. Six single bands of custom tape are visible on the handle, and another layer of white athletic tape approaches the trademark. The taping style was a staple for Rose gamers. Pete signed the barrel, adding the inscription, “To Bobby, Best Wishes To A Great Guy & Most Knowledgeable Baseball Man Around”, in paint pen. “14” is written on the knob in white marker for identification.
A fine Rose representation from when he was still baseball’s main man.
